On this day in 1995, ‘Brokenhearted’ was released by Brandy and then-boyfriend, Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men.
The song was originally recorded by Brandy alone, and appears on her debut album as a solo performance.
Almost a year after the album’s release, the song was re-recorded as a duet with Wanya while Boyz II Men and Brandy were touring together. It was labelled the ‘Soulpower Mix’ and released as the final single from her debut album.
In the US, the single peaked at #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, behind Mariah Carey’s ‘Fantasy’. It also peaked at #9 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Internationally, it peaked at #6 in New Zealand.
