19th Anniversary of ‘Bug a Boo’ by Destiny’s Child

On this day in 1999, Destiny’s Child released ‘Bug a Boo’, the second single from ‘The Writing’s On The Wall’.

All four original group members (Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson) are credited as co-writers on the song, along with Kandi of Xscape, and She’kspere.

The music video featured cameo appearances by Kobe Bryant, and Wyclef Jean.

It was the group’s final music video to feature LeToya and LaTavia before they were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin.

Kelly Rowland has admitted in an interview, years after the song’s release, that ‘Bug a Boo’ is her least-favourite Destiny’s Child song because she thinks the lyrics are cringe-worthy.

The lyrics include a lot of outdated references, such as “pagin’ my beeper”, “have AOL make my email stop”, and “tell MCI to cut the phone calls”.

Its highest charting positions globally were #6 in Netherlands and #9 in the UK. It charted within the Top 30 in a number of other countries.
