This year’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ ceremony honoured living legend Janet Jackson with the ‘Rock Star Award’.
According to ‘Black Girls Rock!’, the ‘Rock Star Award’ is “given to phenomenal women in music who are cultural innovators and whose work exhibits a commitment to the craftsmanship, creativity, integrity and elevation of high art. This award celebrates fierce, fearless ‘sheroes’ in music who have successfully pushed the envelope and carved a niche where other artists not only take note, but dutifully follow her lead. This artist’s combination of talent, work-ethic and drive makes her one of those who set the standard of excellence in music entertainment and culture.”
Previous recipients of the ‘Rock Star Award’ include Queen Latifah, who was this year’s host, Alicia Keys, and Erykah Badu.
We absolutely loved Janet’s look, which was very reminiscent of Janet’s ‘The Velvet Rope’ era from 20 years ago!
Janet’s catchy new single, ‘Made For Now’, featuring Daddy Yankee is set to debut on Billboard’s Hot 100 this week, and is climbing on urban radio.
