After 25 years in the making, Billboard has officially announced today that Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has become her 19th #1 single on their Hot 100 chart!

While the iconic single has topped the Holiday charts year after year, broken countless records, and has been heralded as the best-selling modern-day Christmas song, it was not eligible to enter the all-genre chart due to chart rules at the time of release.
With this new achievement, Mariah has extended her lead as the solo artist with the most #1 hits in Hot 100 history. She also joins an elite group of artists who have been able to accomplish #1 singles across three consecutive decades. If the single also manages to top the chart on the Christmas chart week and becomes the first #1 of 2020, which is highly likely considering the song’s growing and unstoppable popularity, there is a chance that Mariah could extend this feat over four decades.

‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has now also become Mariah’s 15th #1 as a producer, and 18th #1 as a songwriter, extending her lead for most #1s by a female producer and female songwriter on the Hot 100. There aren’t many Christmas songs that are as monumental and recognised around the world, so it is impressive that Mariah not only recorded the song, but wrote and produced it.
‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has shattered another record for the longest climb to the #1 position on the chart, previously held by ‘Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)’ by Los Del Rio, which took 33 weeks to achieve a #1 position.
It has also become only the second Christmas song in history to top the chart, joining ‘The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)’ by David Seville and The Chipmunks in 1958.
The song has given Mariah her 80th week at #1 on the Hot 100, extending another record she already held for the most weeks spent at the top of the chart.
As the song comes from Mariah’s 1994 ‘Merry Christmas’ album, she now has at least one #1 single from her first seven consecutive album releases.
It’s so fitting that whilst the song’s legacy has already been well-established and embedded in the history books, it is finally acknowledged as an official #1 song on the Hot 100.
Congratulations Mariah!

To help commemorate the song’s milestone anniversary, you can pre-order limited physical formats of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ to be released on December 20th, including both 7″ and 12″ Vinyls, Red and Green Cassettes, and two different CD singles at mariahcareyshop.com.
Mariah wrapped up her annual ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ tour across the US last night with a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. If you are lucky enough to be in New York City on Tuesday, Mariah will be signing copies of the Deluxe Anniversary Edition of the ‘Merry Christmas’ album at her Live Nation pop-up store.
In further exciting news, a new music video for the song is on its way, directed by Joseph Khan who has worked with Mariah previously on the music videos for ‘Boy (I Need You)’ and ‘#Beautiful’. Mariah has also filmed upcoming segments with James Corden and Billy Eichner.
