The song was written and produced solely by Babyface.

It tied the record for the most weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, with Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’, with 14 weeks. Boyz II Men held the record prior to this with ‘End of The Road’ for 13 weeks, and then went on to break their own record with 16 weeks with ‘One Sweet Day’, their collaboration with Mariah Carey.

The run ended when they knocked themselves from the top with ‘On Bended Knee’. At the time, they were the first act to replace themselves at #1 in 30 years, previously only achieved by The Beatles in 1964.

The single also reached #1 on numerous other Billboard charts, including the Adult Contemporary and R&B charts, and was a #1 hit in Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Boyz II Men were awarded a Grammy for ‘Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals’ for the song, and 2 American Music Awards for ‘Favourite Pop/Rock Single’ and ‘Favourite Soul/R&B Single’.

The Spanish version, ‘ Yo Te Voy A Amar ’ appeared on their 1995 album of the same name, and also the 1996 Japan compilation album ‘Extras’.

The group famously hand out single roses during their live concert performances of the song, with the crowd eagerly running to the stage in hopes of securing a flower.
