23rd Anniversary of Usher’s ‘You Make Me Wanna…’

On this day in 1997, Usher released ‘You Make Me Wanna…’ as the lead single from his ‘My Way’ album.

The song debuted at #1 in the UK, and in the US, it topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list for eleven weeks, and spent a total of 71 weeks on that chart, which remained the most in history by a male artist until 2009.

It peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks, held from the top spot by Elton John’s ‘Candle In The Wind’, and overall spent 46 weeks on the chart.

Other notable chart positions include peaking at #6 in both Australia and Canada, and #15 in New Zealand.

‘You Make Me Wanna…’ also won ‘Best R&B/Soul Single’ at the 1998 Soul Train Awards.
