Two years ago today, Janet Jackson released ‘Made For Now’, featuring Puerto Rican artist Daddy Yankee.
It was Janet’s first single release since ‘Dammn Baby’ in 2016 from her ‘Unbreakable’ album, and she is yet to release a follow-up.
The song premiered on The Tonight Show with a live performance, and Janet actively promoted the song in the months following the release. She appeared on numerous radio stations, and also performed it as part of a medley on the MTV European Music Awards.
In the US, it became her 20th #1 hit on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart and also marked her 50th entry on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
The music video, which has over 72 million views on YouTube, was directed by Dave Meyers. He previously worked with Janet on videos for ‘All For You’, ‘Just a Little While’, ‘No Sleeep’, and more. Interestingly, parts of the video filmed on the streets of Brooklyn, New York were filmed in silence to avoid the song being leaked.
In November 2018, a Latin version was released, and the one year anniversary of the song in August 2019 was marked with an 8-track vinyl release with remixes.
