24th Anniversary of Aaliyah’s ‘One in a Million’ album

On this day in 1996, Aaliyah released her second studio album, ‘One in a Million’.

The album included the singles ‘If Your Girl Only Knew’, ‘One in a Million’, ‘Got to Give It Up’, ‘4 Page Letter’, ‘Hot Like Fire’, and ‘The One I Gave My Heart To’.

The album has been certified Double Platinum in the US, where it peaked at #18. It has sold over 8 million copies worldwide.

After Aaliyah’s passing in 2001, the album went to #1 on the Top Catalog Albums chart for 12 weeks.

Due to ongoing issues with distribution rights, the majority of Aaliyah’s catalogue including ‘One in a Million’ has not been available on digital and streaming services. Earlier this week on the 19th anniversary of Aaliyah’s passing, her estate issued a statement revealing they are in discussions with various record labels to finally have her discography added to streaming services in the “near future”.
