23rd Anniversary of Usher’s ‘My Way’ album

On this day in 1997, Usher released his breakthrough album, ‘My Way’.

All three of the album’s single releases became massive hits. The Platinum-certified lead single ‘You Make Me Wanna…’ peaked at #2 in the US and spent eleven weeks at #1 on the R&B chart. It also topped the UK charts, and was a Top 20 hit around the world.

‘Nice & Slow’ became Usher’s first #1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 and his second #1 on the R&B chart. It was also a Top 10 hit in New Zealand.

The title track ‘My Way’ peaked at #2 in the US, stalled behind Brandy and Monica’s unstoppable hit ‘The Boy Is Mine’. It was also a Top 5 hit on the R&B chart, and was certified Platinum.

The album itself, which featured guest appearances from Monica, Lil’ Kim and Jermaine Dupri, topped the R&B chart for three consecutive weeks.

It spent 79 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at #4, and it has been certified an incredible 6x Platinum.
