On this day in 1997, Usher released his breakthrough album, ‘My Way’.

All three of the album’s single releases became massive hits. The Platinum-certified lead single ‘You Make Me Wanna…’ peaked at #2 in the US and spent eleven weeks at #1 on the R&B chart. It also topped the UK charts, and was a Top 20 hit around the world.

‘Nice & Slow’ became Usher’s first #1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 and his second #1 on the R&B chart. It was also a Top 10 hit in New Zealand.

The title track ‘My Way’ peaked at #2 in the US, stalled behind Brandy and Monica’s unstoppable hit ‘The Boy Is Mine’. It was also a Top 5 hit on the R&B chart, and was certified Platinum.

The album itself, which featured guest appearances from Monica, Lil’ Kim and Jermaine Dupri, topped the R&B chart for three consecutive weeks.

It spent 79 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at #4, and it has been certified an incredible 6x Platinum.
