On this day in 1995, Mariah Carey released her fifth studio album, ‘Daydream‘.
The ‘Daydream’ album debuted at #1 in nine countries, including Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the US.
It became Mariah’s second album to be certified Diamond in the US, following ‘Music Box’, and it remains one of the best-selling albums in history.
The iconic release spawned six singles, including three #1 hits:
– ‘Fantasy’, which made Mariah the first female artist to debut at #1 in the US.
– ‘One Sweet Day’ with Boyz II Men, which held the Billboard record for the most weeks at #1 for 23 years.
– ‘Always Be My Baby’, which became Mariah’s eleventh #1 single, and at the time tied Mariah with Whitney Houston and Madonna for the most #1 songs by a solo female artist, however Mariah surpassed them and now has the most #1 singles in history by any solo artist, with nineteen.
A 1995 sold-out show at New York’s Madison Square Garden aired as a television special in support of the album, and was later released as a home video titled ‘Fantasy: Mariah Carey at Madison Square Garden’. Performances from that show were used for the music videos of ‘Open Arms’ and ‘El Amor Que Soñé’, and the entire show is available to watch via Mariah’s YouTube channel.
Mariah’s latest music release ‘The Rarities‘ includes a disc of seventeen live tracks from one of her 1996 Daydream Tour shows at Tokyo Dome, and the concert has also been uploaded to her YouTube channel in its entirety for the first time in HD.
As part of celebrating Mariah’s incredible milestone of thirty wonderful years in the music industry this year, four comprehensive digital EPs were released for ‘Fantasy‘, ‘One Sweet Day‘, ‘Always Be My Baby‘ and ‘Underneath The Stars‘, featuring remixes and live performances.
The music videos for ‘Fantasy’, ‘Fantasy (Remix)’, ‘One Sweet Day’ and ‘Always Be My Baby’ have all been remastered in HD on her YouTube channel, and Mariah also revealed on social media that long-lost footage of the ‘Underneath The Stars’ music video, which has never before been released, has been found and shared a teaser with fans.
Last year, the ‘Daydream’ album was released as a gold metallic vinyl exclusively from ‘Vinyl Me, Please’, and this year it is being widely released as a classic black vinyl, available from November 6th.
