Week Eleven

Mariah kicked off the new week with some incredible snippets of tracks from ‘The Rarities’ in anticipation of the album’s release in one week!

Mariah has revealed that while she was making the ‘Daydream’ album back in 1995, she worked on a secret project with her friend Clarissa as an alternative rock band called ‘Chick’.

The group had one album called ‘Someone’s Ugly Daughter’ and Mariah kept it a secret for 25 years that she wrote, produced and provided vocals on every song on the album (with the exception of one track she didn’t write, which is a Cheap Trick cover). She also had a hand in the album’s art direction, and directed the music video for the song ‘Malibu’ which features her beloved dog Jack.

In the past, Mariah spoke of her now-defunct record label ‘Crave’ getting its name from a song she’d written which was a secret. Following the revelation of her work with ‘Chick’, it seems the song she was referring to was ‘Demented’, whose chorus says “I crave you, I crave you, I crave you ’til I turn blue“.

Mariah has also revealed she is attempting to track down the version of the album with her lead vocals!

Be sure to pick up Mariah’s incredible memoir ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey’, out now! It’s available in physical format, eBook and narrated by Mariah herself on Audible.
