23rd Anniversary of Deborah Cox’s ‘One Wish’ album

On this day in 1998, Deborah Cox released her second studio album, ‘One Wish’.

‘Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here’ was the biggest success from the album, being certified Platinum and spending fourteen weeks at #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, thirteen weeks at #1 on the Adult R&B Songs chart, and one week at #1 on the Dance Club Songs Chart with a Hex Hector remix.

It peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 for eight weeks, and won a Soul Train Award, and Soul Train Lady of Soul Award.

‘We Can’t Be Friends’, a duet with R.L. from the group Next, was also a #1 hit on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It peaked at #5 on Adult R&B Songs and #8 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

‘It’s Over Now’ and ‘I Never Knew’ were both #1 hits on the Dance Club Songs chart, as was ‘Things Just Ain’t The Same’ which originally appeared on the ‘Money Talks’ soundtrack and had a dance remix included on ‘One Wish’.

Writers on the album included Montell Jordan, Shep Crawford, Diane Warren, Stevie J, Gordon Chambers, and Rodney Jerkins.

The album has been certified Platinum in the US and Gold in Canada, and earned Deborah her third Juno Award.
