On this day in 2001, ‘Get The Party Started’ was released as the lead single from P!nk’s second album, ‘Missundaztood’.
The song became a huge hit around the world, and was P!nk’s most successful song of her career up until that point. It charted in the Top 5 in over 20 countries, and notably topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain and more.

The song was written and produced by Linda Perry, who contributed to more than half of the songs on the ‘Missundaztood’ album, and who also makes a brief cameo appearance in the ‘Get The Party Started’ music video as a bartender. Linda has since revealed in a ‘Rolling Stone’ interview that the song was initially intended for Madonna, who turned it down.

In Australia, ‘Get The Party Started’ became P!nk’s third #1 single, and stayed on top for two weeks. She now has a total of nine #1 singles in Australia, placing her in third place (tied with Delta Goodrem) of female artists with the most #1 singles in Australia.
In the US, the song peaked at #4, becoming her third Top 5 single there. It also became P!nk’s first #1 single on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart, where she has now accumulated a total of seven chart-toppers.

A Rockwilder remix titled ‘Get the Party Started/Sweet Dreams’ was produced featuring Redman, and sampled the Eurythmics track ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’, while the ‘K5 Werk Kraft Mix’ featured British singer Spoonface.
‘Get The Party Started’ earned P!nk an MTV Europe Music Award, two MTV Video Music Awards, and a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award.
