On this day in 1994, Boyz II Men released ‘On Bended Knee’ as the second single from their #1 album ‘II’.
The song was written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
‘On Bended Knee’ became the group’s third #1 single in the United States, when they knocked off their own song ‘I’ll Make Love To You’ from the top of the chart. This made them the first act in 30 years to replace themselves at #1, previously only achieved by The Beatles in 1964.
In Australia, the song spent 10 weeks in the Top 20, peaking at #7. It also spent 10 weeks in the Top 20 in New Zealand, where it peaked at #4.
The Spanish version, ‘Me Rindo Ante Ti’ appeared on their 1995 album ‘Yo Te Voy A Amar’, the 1996 Japan compilation album ‘Extras’ and the 1997 album ‘Evolución’.
