23 years have passed since Monica released her stunning version of ‘Angel of Mine’, produced by Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins.

The song appeared on Monica’s second studio album ‘The Boy Is Mine’, and was originally released by UK group Eternal just one year prior in Europe and Australasia. The lyrics were altered slightly for Monica’s version by the original co-songwriter Rhett Lawrence.

‘Angel of Mine’ became Monica’s third consecutive #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 following ‘The Boy Is Mine’ and ‘The First Night’, spending four weeks on top of the chart. It also peaked at #2 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. The song also notably charted at #5 in Canada and #12 in Australia.

Directed by Diane Martel and starring Tyrese as Monica’s love interest, the ‘Angel of Mine’ music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube in July this year, becoming her second video to achieve that feat following ‘Why I Love You So Much’.
