On this day in 2004, Kelly Clarkson released her second studio album ‘Breakaway’, which was a change of direction for the singer into a pop-rock sound.

The Grammy Award-winning album went on to sell over 12 million copies and remains Kelly’s most successful album to date. It has been certified Platinum in over ten countries, and charted within the Top 5 around the world. Incredibly, the album spent 61 consecutive weeks within the Top 20 in the US.

The no-skips album produced five worldwide hit singles: the title track ‘Breakaway‘, ‘Since U Been Gone’, ‘Behind These Hazel Eyes’, ‘Because Of You‘, and ‘Walk Away’.

The album’s massive success was supported by multiple concert tours, covering Australia, Europe and North America.
