On this day in 1987, Janet Jackson’s ‘Let’s Wait Awhile’ was released as the fifth single from her ‘Control’ album, lyrically speaking about postponing intimacy in a new relationship.

It became Janet’s fifth consecutive Top 5 hit in the United States (all five songs being from the ‘Control’ album), peaking at #2. It became her fourth #1 single on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and also peaked at #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
It was a Top 5 hit in the UK where it has been certified Silver, peaking at #3, and Ireland, peaking at #4.

The song has been performed by Destiny’s Child in tribute to Janet, it was featured on the television show Glee, and covered by many others.
