On this day in 2001, Destiny’s Child released ‘Survivor’, which went on to become one of the group’s most successful singles.
‘Survivor’ earned them an MTV Video Music Award, a Soul Train Lady of Soul award, and a Grammy Award.
The song was a massive global hit, charting within the Top 20 across the world. It spent seven consecutive weeks at #2 in the US, behind Janet Jackson’s ‘All For You’, and it topped the charts in the UK, Ireland, Japan and Norway.
The music video, directed by Darren Grant, first premiered on MTV’s ‘Making The Video’ and was released as a DVD single. It was later featured on a number of DVD compilations. The remix featuring Da Brat also had its own music video, although it’s not currently available on any official releases or the group’s YouTube channel.
