Today marks the 30th anniversary of Boyz II Men’s iconic and timeless classic, ‘End of The Road’ from the ‘Boomerang’ soundtrack.
Written by Babyface, L.A. Reid and Daryl Simmons, the Platinum-certified hit was recorded in less than three hours while the group were on tour with MC Hammer.
During the 2021 documentary ‘This Is Pop’, available to stream on Netflix, the group spoke in detail about the creation and success of ‘End Of The Road’, including that prior to the recording of the track, Nate was initially not impressed by the Babyface demo of the song.
The song became the biggest hit of 1992, spending an incredible thirteen consecutive weeks at #1 in the US, which at the time, broke a 36-year old record held by Elvis Presley for the longest-running #1 song in history.
It also spent four weeks at #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and earned the group two Grammy Awards, an American Music Award and two Soul Train Music Awards. To this day, it is regarded one of the most successful songs of all time.
‘End of The Road’ was also a #1 hit in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK, and many more countries.

Alternate versions of the song include a Spanish recording, ‘Al Final del Camino’ for their 1997 ‘Evolucion’ album, a duet version with Brian McKnight on their 2007 release ‘Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA’, and as a celebration of their twentieth anniversary as a group on the 2011 album ‘Twenty’.
