Today marks the 27th anniversary of Monica’s debut album, ‘Miss Thang’, which has been certified 3x Platinum in the US (last certified in January 2000).

‘Miss Thang’ was a nickname given to Monica by producer Dallas Austin during the studio recording sessions of the album because she had sass and acted wise beyond her years.

The album produced four hit singles: ‘Don’t Take It Personal (Just One Of Dem Days)’, ‘Before You Walk Out Of My Life’, ‘Like This And Like That’, and ‘Why I Love You So Much’.

It also featured a duet with Usher of Benny Latimore’s 1974 hit ‘Let’s Straighten It Out’.
At the age of only fourteen, Monica became the youngest artist to have two consecutive #1 singles on the US R&B chart with ‘Don’t Take It Personal’ and ‘Before You Walk Out Of My Life’.

Monica also won a Billboard Music Award in 1996 for ‘R&B Artist Of The Year’.
