On this day in 1999, Destiny’s Child released their second album, ‘The Writing’s On The Wall’.

It was the final studio album from the group’s original lineup of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson, although for two of the album’s singles, new members Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin appeared in the music videos.

The album was recorded in only three weeks.

‘Say My Name’ earned the group 2 Grammy Awards for ‘Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals’ and ‘Best R&B Song’, as well as a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award and BMI Pop Award.

‘The Writing’s On The Wall’ spent 99 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, and was certified 8x Platinum in the US (last certified in 2001). In Australia, the album spent 27 weeks in the Top 20, and 44 weeks in the Top 50. It has reportedly sold over 13 million copies worldwide.
