36 years have passed since Janet Jackson released ‘When I Think Of You’ as the third single from her ‘Control’ album.

It became her very first #1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. At only 20 years old, she was the youngest solo artist to top the chart since Stevie Wonder with ‘Fingertips’ in 1963. Janet and her brother, Michael, also became the only siblings to have solo #1 singles, and this is a record which still stands.
‘When I Think Of You’ was also her first #1 on the Dance Club Songs chart, where it stayed on top for three weeks. Fast-forward 36 years, and Janet now has twenty #1 singles on that chart, putting her in fourth place for the most in history.

The music video includes cameo appearances from Janet’s nephews, TJ and Tarryl, who later became members of 3T, and Paula Abdul, who was the choreographer.
The video earned Janet an American Music Award for ‘Favourite Pop/Rock/Soul/R&B Video’ in 1988, and a Black Gold Award for ‘Outstanding Music Video’. It was remastered in High Definition for her YouTube channel in 2019.
