On this day in 1995, Monica released ‘Before You Walk Out of My Life’ as the second single from her debut album, ‘Miss Thang’.

It was certified Platinum in the US, and was her second #1 single on Billboard’s R&B chart, staying on top for 2 weeks. At only 14 years old, this made her the youngest artist to ever have 2 consecutive #1 hits on the chart. It also peaked at #7 on the Hot 100.
In New Zealand, it spent 11 weeks in the Top 20, peaking at #8.

One of the song’s writers, Andrea Martin, revealed that the song was originally written for Toni Braxton’s ‘Secrets’ album, however it didn’t make the cut because they replaced it with ‘I Love Me Some Him’.
