On this day in 1996, ‘Missing You’ was released by Brandy, Tamia, Gladys Knight & Chaka Khan.
The song was the first single from the highly successful soundtrack for ‘Set It Off’, which peaked at #4 in the US and was certified Platinum.

In New Zealand, the song was certified Platinum, and spent two weeks at #2 behind ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ by Warren G and Adina Howard.
In the US, the song peaked at #2 on the Adult R&B Songs chart, #10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and #25 on the Hot 100.

In the music video, each singer was filmed individually in different settings and the footage was pasted together. It was directed by F. Gary Gray, who was the director of the ‘Set It Off’ film.
The music video was uploaded to Brandy’s official YouTube channel for the first time in March 2020, along with a number of other videos from her back catalogue.

One of the song’s writers, Gordon Chambers, has also recorded a version of the song on his 2011 album, ‘Sincere’.
