On this day in 1995, Coolio released ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’, featuring L.V., from the ‘Dangerous Minds’ soundtrack.

Coolio and L.V. performed the song together with Stevie Wonder at the 1995 Billboard Music Awards, as it sample’s Stevie’s 1976 track ‘Pastime Paradise’.

‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ was a #1 hit in over fifteen countries, and one of 1995’s best-selling singles worldwide, behind Los del Río’s ‘Macarena’.
The song earned Coolio a Grammy Award for ‘Best Rap Solo Performance’, and two MTV Video Music Awards for ‘Best Rap Video’ and ‘Best Video from a Film’.

Michelle Pfeiffer appears in the music video, reprising her role from the ‘Dangerous Minds’ film.
