On this day in 2009, Kelly Clarkson released ‘Already Gone’, which she co-wrote with Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic.
Kelly expressed public disapproval of the song being included on her album and being released as a single after she realised the similarity in musical arrangement to Beyoncé’s ‘Halo’, which was also co-written and co-produced by Ryan Tedder. She has since performed the song live with an altered arrangement, and has even mashed the song with ‘Halo’.
The song was a Top 20 hit in numerous countries including Australia, Canada and the US.
‘Already Gone’ spent eight consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Adult Top 40 Songs chart, and also spent a total of 51 weeks on the Adult Contemporary chart, peaking at #3.
