On this day in 1999, an 18-year-old Christina Aguilera released her self-titled debut album.
The album included three #1 hits, ‘Genie In a Bottle’, ‘What a Girl Wants’ and ”Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)’, as well as ‘Reflection’ from the ‘Mulan’ soundtrack, and her cover of All-4-One’s ‘I Turn To You’.
The album topped the charts in the US and Canada, and remains her best-selling album around the world. It has sold over 14 million copies globally, and has been certified 8x Platinum in the US alone (last certified in December 2000).
All five singles were re-recorded in Spanish and included on her follow-up album ‘Mi Reflejo’.
In 2019, the album’s 20th anniversary was commemorated with limited cassette and vinyl releases.
