On this day in 1995, Janet Jackson released the hit single, ‘Runaway’.

‘Runaway’ was the lead single from Janet’s hits collection, ‘Design Of A Decade: 1986 – 1996’, and was a Top 10 hit around the world.
With ‘Runaway’, Janet became the first female artist to ever debut within the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. It entered at #6, and later peaked at #3.

Jimmy Jam, who was a co-writer and co-producer of the song, revealed in 2014 that when the song was initially written by Janet, himself and Terry Lewis, they envisioned the song as a duet with Janet’s brother, Michael Jackson. The siblings decided to record ‘Scream’ together instead.
The iconic ‘Runaway’ music video sees Janet around the world in numerous countries including Egypt, India, Africa, Paris, Australia, Japan and more.

Most recently, the song is featured on the 2022 compilation exclusive to Japan, ‘Japanese Singles Collection: Greatest Hits‘.
