On this day in 1994, Australian icon Tina Arena released one of her biggest hits, ‘Chains’. It was the lead single from her multi-Platinum album ‘Don’t Ask’.

The song peaked at #4 in Australia, and within the Top 10 in numerous countries including the UK, New Zealand and Ireland. It also remains Tina’s highest-charting song in the US, peaking at #38 there.

As well as being certified 2x Platinum in Australia and Silver in the UK, ‘Chains’ earned Tina a number of esteemed awards, including ‘Song of The Year’ at the 1995 ARIA Awards.

There were two different music videos produced for the song; the most common version aired across Australia and Europe, and the second was filmed specifically for the American market.

‘Chains’ was re-released in 2015 as a collaboration with Jessica Mauboy and The Veronicas, following their joint live performance of the song at the 2015 ARIA Awards, where Tina was inducted into the Hall Of Fame. The new version of the track peaked at #14 in Australia.

In 2019, a 12-track remix EP was added to digital music platforms called ‘Chains: The Remixes’.
