On this day in 2002, Missy Elliott released ‘Work It’ from her album ‘Under Construction’.

The song became Missy’s most commercially successful single, spending ten weeks at #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100. This remains the record for the most weeks at #2 without topping the chart.
It peaked at #1 on the Rap and R&B charts in the US and charted well internationally, notably peaking at #3 in New Zealand and #6 in both Australia and the UK.

The music video, directed by Dave Meyers and featuring cameos from Timbaland and Tweet, won Video of the Year at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, and is known for launching the career of Alyson Stoner, who was the lead child dancer in the video.
The song has also earned Missy a Grammy Award, Billboard Music Award, Soul Train Award, NAACP Award, and ASCAP Awards.
