Today marks the 21st anniversary of Mary J. Blige’s ‘No More Drama’, which served as the second single from the album of the same name.

According to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who wrote and produced the song, they first presented ‘No More Drama’ to Mary for her 1999 album titled ‘Mary’, but at the time she wanted to hold off on recording it until she was “ready” for it.
The song samples the theme song from ‘The Young and the Restless’, and Mary makes reference to this in the lyric, “Maybe I like the stress, ’cause I was young and restless”.

The music video featured cameo appearances from Mariah Carey and Diddy, and earned Mary an MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video.

‘No More Drama’ peaked at #9 in the UK and #15 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in the US. The ‘Thunderpuss Remix’ was a #1 hit on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart, becoming Mary’s fourth #1 on that chart at the time.
There was also a completely re-written and re-sung remix of the song which bares very little resemblance to the original, featuring Diddy and Mario Winans.
