On this day in 2005, Mary J. Blige released ‘Be Without You’ as the official lead single from her seventh studio album ‘The Breakthrough’.

The song spent 15 consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and spent a total of 75 weeks on the chart, which remains the most by any song in history.
The single peaked at #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100, and has been certified 2x Platinum in the US.

‘Be Without You’ was also a #1 hit on the Dance Club Songs chart, where it became Mary’s fifth song to top the chart. Mary now has accumulated a total of eight #1 dance singles.

The song helped Mary take home two Grammy Awards in 2007 for ‘Best R&B Song’ and ‘Best Female R&B Vocal Performance’.
