On this day in 2008, Jessica Mauboy released her debut single, ‘Running Back’, featuring Flo Rida. It was her first solo effort following her time as part of the group Young Divas.
The song spent sixteen weeks in the Australian Top 20, and peaked at #3. It has been certified double Platinum and earned Jess numerous awards, including her first ARIA Award for ‘Highest Selling Single’ in 2009.
The first televised performance of ‘Running Back’ was on the Australian Idol stage, where Jess had been a contestant two years prior.
The ‘Running Back’ digital EP features a remix with Israel Cruz, a karaoke version, and two b-sides, ‘Magical’ and ‘Breathe’. There are also two live versions of the song available; on the 2014 EP ‘iTunes Session’, as well as a radio performance on the ‘Galaxy’ EP.
