On this day in 1999, the iconic ‘Millennium’ album was released by the Backstreet Boys. It was their first album to be released in both US and international markets at the same time. The album topped the charts in over 15 countries and has sold 24 million copies worldwide.

The album produced four hit singles; ‘I Want It That Way’, ‘Larger Than Life’, ‘Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely’, and ‘The One’.
A cover of Joe’s ‘No One Else Comes Close’ was also included on the album, which had been released as a single by Joe the previous year.

The album debuted at #1 in the US and spent ten nonconsecutive weeks on top. At the time, it broke the record for both the highest first-day and first-week sales in history.
In June 1999, the group embarked on the ‘Into The Millennium Tour’ in support of the album, performing 123 shows in 84 cities.
